Special Entry criteria
If you are registered with Work & Income, you will need to make an appointment with your Case Manager to let them know you want to join one of our courses and they will give you a letter to bring to us. You need to be 16 years old and have left school to join Youth Training. If you are under 16 years ring Ingrid Brown and she will discuss the options available to you.
Enrolment
Come in and talk to one of our Team Leaders who can give you more information about the course and help you to complete an Enrolment Form or discuss documentation you need for the course you want to join. If you have a driver licence, birth certificate or school leaving certificate, bring these in with you.

Student Support Services
Matapuna has a range of support services and people to assist you:
- Team Leaders (academic, careers advice)
- Trainee Support (court, WINZ etc)
- Cultural Support (Pouarahi), Noho marae held annually
- Literacy/numeracy assistance
- Access to community resources eg Turanga Health
- Panui (weekly), Trainee Forums share information
- Whanau room (hui)
- Transport (to and from course)
- Morning tea provided daily
Whatever your needs, talk to your Team leader or Trainee Support.
Careers advice
Team Leaders can help you develop a learning plan and set realistic goals towards the job or career you want. A useful tool is the www.kiwicareers.govt.nz website as it provides information about the skills and qualifications required for a specific job, tasks and responsibilities involved, salary etc.
Scholarship
We have scholarship assistance (KEVIN MAKIN SCHOLARSHIP) that you can apply for at the end of year to go to further tertiary study or employment.
Student Allowances
If enrolled on Toiora (NC in Electronic Multimedia), you can apply for Student Allowance which is work tested. You will need to apply to Study Link www.studylink.govt.nz to download the application form or call Study Link on 0800 88 99 00. You can discuss this with the Team Leader.
Facilities
Matapuna Training Centre is equipped with 4 hi-tech computer suites, airconditioned and carpeted classrooms, a recording studio, band room, visual arts studio, film and editing suite, radio station and gym.
